Both mean generally "a getting rid of," but "disposal" has more often to do with trash or inconsequential items, whereas "disposition" is used of assets given to relatives and friends by will. "Disposition" connotes a preconceived plan and an orderly arrangement. "Disposal," by contrast, bears derogatory connotations--more so in AmE than in BrE.
