Glossary definition(s) for: American standard code for information interchange

  • n., (ASCII) The binary code used by most computers to represent in digital format the uppercase and lowercase letters of the Latin script, numerals, and special characters so that they can be sent to, and understood by, other computers and devices such as modems and printers. Each ASCII character consists of seven information bits and one parity bit for error checking.
