Abstract:
The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Brazil created the Unified Health System (SUS, the acronym in Portuguese) in order to provide the entire Brazilian population with access to the national public health system. SUS is comprised of public institutions directly or indirectly run by federal, state or municipal administration, as well as state foundations and some private initiatives, in a complementary way.
The digital entity that will be analyzed is the Hospital Internment Authorization (AIH), a document used to identify the patients and the services supplied during the internment at hospitals of the SUS network and to provide information to the Hospital Information System (SIH). By means of the AIH, hospitals, professionals and auxiliary services get to be paid for the services they provide.
SIH, implemented in 1990 as a replacement to the Social Security’s Medical and Hospital Assistance System (SAMHPS), is aimed to control and regulate the debts and payments of hospital internments in SUS, all over the Brazilian territory.
In 2004, following several changes, the gradual decentralization of SIH-SUS to the levels of state and city governments was finally kicked off.
The case study is aimed to analyze and assess AIHs, according to the conceptual framework supported by the InterPARES Project, and thus suggest improvements and/or adaptations in the system, in order to ensure the reliability, authenticity and preservation of AIHs for as long as necessary.

Abstract:
The test-bed concerns the Public Relations and Press Office (Portuguese acronym: ASCOM) of the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil, created in 1982, in charge of producing, managing and storing digital photographic documents, covering news and current events.
The case study examines photographic documents recorded in their original digital format, since 2004, so that they can be edited by publishers and professional news media professionals. Images are copied and stored in a specific repository and are retrievable in the SIARQ/Search engine, a corporate system grounded on ISAD(G) and EAD procedures. Those digital records must remain reliable, authentic and accessible through time.
This InterPARES 3 case study aims at setting up management and preservation procedures relating to such repository of records.

Abstract:
Brazil's Legislative Branch is bicameral. The Chamber of Deputies is comprised of 513 members of parliament and, among other duties shared with the Federal Senate, it is in charge of making laws, a process initiated through the legislative proposition.
The legislative proposition is the document that formalizes the presentation of a matter for the Brazilian Congress, it includes proposition of ordinary bills and constitution amendments, the country's annual budget law etc.
The so-called "legislative process" is a series of rules concerning the presentation and proceedings involving the proposition within the Congress. At the Chamber of Deputies, the General Secretariat of the Governing Board is in charge of the legislative process, which is monitored by the Legislative Information System, implemented in 2001, whose goal is to register and provide access to the content and flow of the legislative propositions, making their full texts immediately available on the institution's website and intranet.
The entity in study is the legislative proposition digital dossier – Ordinary bill. This case study aims to identify the necessary requirements for the authenticity and long-term preservation of such digital entity.

Abstract:
Established in 1984, the Sistema de Arquivos do Estado de São Paulo – SAESP (System of Archives of São Paulo State) has as its main unit the Arquivo Público do Estado de São Paulo (São Paulo State Archives). The institution, through the Departamento de Gestão do Sistema de Arquivos do Estado de São Paulo – DGSAESP (Department of Management of the System of Archives of São Paulo State), is responsible for formulating and implementing the state's archival policy as well as promoting the integration and improvement of the activities of archives and archival offices within the branches of the government of the state of São Paulo.
The Sistema Informatizado Unificado de Gestão Arquivística de Documentos e Informações – SPdoc (Electronic recordkeeping system of São Paulo State) consists of a set of procedures and technical operations within the archival management of records processed electronically, which applies to conventional and digital documents created and set aside by the government of the state of São Paulo. The SPdoc is a necessary and desirable follow-up to DGSAESP's work, as it contributes expressively to the administration's modernization and effectiveness, the control of government finances, the transparency of government actions, the archives' preservation and the offer of full access to Administration's information.
São Paulo's State Archives, through DGSAESP, intends to promote, with this case study, the improvement of SPdoc, aiming to turn it into the government's corporate system. In the meantime, the Arquivo Público do Estado de São Paulo hopes to collaborate with the InterPARES Project in the development of the theoretical-methodological knowledge essential to formulate strategies, policies and standards capable of ensuring the long-term preservation and access to documents managed or created electronically.

Abstract:
In 2005, a new administrative management model was implemented in the municipal government of Porto Alegre, the second largest city in southern Brazil: the strategic planning model, which deals with the crossing of activities, dividing the municipal government actions into two operation axes – government programs and program actions.
The digital entity in question is the Management Website of Porto Alegre's Municipal Government. This site gathers information concerning to the implementation of the city's strategic planning and it allows a structured, standardized and decentralized registration of data, besides enabling that content to be shared in real time. The Management Website is available at: http://www2.portoalegre.rs.gov.br/portaldegestao/. The structure of the government's programs and actions is defined by the city's annual budget plan.
The Strategic Planning Office of the Cabinet of the Mayor is in charge of the management of the administrative model's activities and the Website. The other units of the city's centralized and decentralized administrations use the Management Website as a tool to publicize and update information on the government's programs.
The study of the Management Website, within the InterPARES Project, aims to identify conditions that favor its preservation and to define procedures targeting the authenticity, security and reliability of the digital entity analyzed.
